Boulder, Colo., Feb. 21, 2001 - Tesser, an award-winning online development and brand services firm with offices in Boulder and San Francisco, announced that Background Noise, a Boulder-based non-profit that gives teens from diverse backgrounds technical skills and resources to create large original art projects, received the first donation that resulted from the launch of cultureofgiving.org.
Since summer 2000, Tesser has dedicated company time and resources to creating the Web site's design, architecture and programming. The company also is providing its brand service expertise to raise awareness of Culture of Giving as a widely known movement to increase levels of giving in Boulder County and, eventually, nationwide.
Cultureofgiving.org, which launched Nov. 13, is a joint effort of Tesser, The Community Foundation, Social Venture Partners and Boulder Community Network.
"We are ecstatic to see such immediate results the Culture of Giving Web site," said Ross Shell, president of Tesser. "Personally and professionally, cultureofgiving.org has been a passionate cause for me and the site's initial success proves that Boulder County can be a model for other communities across the country."
The purpose of the Culture of Giving Web site is to promote a philanthropic culture in Boulder County. It provides a portal of resources, information and tools to help individuals and corporations give to the community. The site contains five main components: a searchable database of Boulder County non-profit organizations, profiles of volunteers and philanthropists, educational guidelines for giving, a link to volunteermatch.org and a charitable giving index for Boulder County.
"The quick response we received from the site's launch was amazing," said Barbara Miner, founder of Background Noise. "Finally, there is a place for people to go that tells them why they should give and how they can give."
Background Noise will use the donation to support its mission of working with teens to speak to their community through the arts.
Background Noise gives teens from diverse backgrounds technical skills and resources to create large original art projects. This enhances the teens' self-confidence and enables them to get the attention of their community without having to use violence to get the attention they need. The Background Noise Teen Board designs, creates and runs the large community art projects for youth. Background Noise projects include the first Background Noise Youth Area at the annual Boulder Creek Festival and the Annual Youth Arts Festival, combining youth arts with conflict resolution workshops.
